Ben O’Malley

Vendor Manager & Senior Appraiser, Appraisal Team Lead, Max Insurance

Ben O’Malley

Ben is Max Insurance’s Vendor Manager & Senior Appraiser and Appraisal Team Lead.

Ben leads Max Insurance’s appraisal team and vendor management programme, with involvement in complex and large loss property claims. He oversees vendor relationships, performance, and dispute resolution, and supports catastrophe response by coordinating vendor capacity, resources, and assignments across affected regions.

Since joining Max Insurance in November 2024, Ben has built the company’s appraisal function, developing its processes, standards, workflows, and documentation requirements. His work has strengthened consistency in property claim assessments and expanded appraisal involvement in early large loss reviews and reserving. He also helps adjusters and appraisers develop their understanding of construction, estimating, and repair scopes.

Ben brings more than 10 years of experience in fire and large loss property claims, supported by a background in residential construction, framing, and restoration. He works closely with policyholders, adjusters, contractors, engineers, and other specialists to assess damage, resolve technical questions, and establish practical repair plans. His approach focuses on understanding how a building was constructed, determining what is damaged and what can safely be retained, and developing a technically supported repair solution that recognises legitimate repair costs.

Before joining Max Insurance, Ben progressed from Desk Reviewer to Large-Loss Field Appraiser at another insurer. He previously spent approximately seven years managing restoration and new-build construction projects, with additional hands-on experience in residential framing. This background allows him to assess losses from both an insurance and construction perspective.

Ben holds a diploma in Architectural Construction Engineering Technology from Conestoga College, where he was part of the team awarded Best Final-Year Project. He also holds IICRC certifications as a Water Damage Restoration Technician and an Applied Structural Drying Technician.
