Gajan Sundaralingam

Gajan brings to Chelsea Avondale a spectacular combination of experience in actuarial science, computer programming, insurance underwriting methodologies and reinsurance portfolio management. The breadth of Gajan’s skillset is integral to our ability to tie together the previously disjointed fields of science and insurance.

As Head of Risk Analytics and Appointed Actuary for BMO Reinsurance Ltd. Gajan was responsible for implementation of a robust underwriting framework supporting growth into new lines of business. Gajan played an integral role in the design & development of scientific risk models used by the company and also led the execution of all technical aspects of BMO’s $413 million acquisition of AIG Life Insurance in Canada.

Furthermore, Gajan has held senior roles with primary insurance carriers that have driven his views on the gaps in risk analysis at the individual policy level. Gajan held the role of AVP of Reinsurance & Large Commercial pricing at Aviva, as well as executing significant risk consulting engagements with RSM LLP. In those roles he led the development and management of reinsurance programs for P&C portfolios. He also played a significant role in providing subject matter expertise to underwriting teams on catastrophic loss modelling, and atmospheric / seismic hazard tools. In understanding how the analysis of these risks played into the front line underwriting and reinsurance placements at existing insurance carriers, he saw significant opportunity for improvement.

Gajan is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Actuarial Science from The University of Western Ontario.
